In 2019 the Love Music Trust established an exciting partnership with the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM) and Sandbach School to run the innovative A-level Cheshire Specialist Music Course. The course is designed for students of Grade 7/8 standard who are aiming towards a future in which music plays a significant part. Based at Sandbach School, the course is aimed at young musicians and vocalists from all across Cheshire, its focus is to facilitate the progression from A-level to university or conservatoire.
In addition to the regular A-level teaching allowance, students on the course benefit from 10 hours a fortnight of enhanced musical development through timetabled sessions in Keyboard Harmony, Chamber Choir, Aural Training and chamber music. Additionally, all students on the course receive a termly ‘top up’ first study lesson with tutors from the RNCM to compliment and support their weekly instrumental lessons.
The first cohort has now gone through the Specialist A-level Music Course at Sandbach School with 5 of the Specialist Music students having great success with their auditions and receiving places at Music Conservatoires.
