Christmas Ensemble Concert

On the evening of 5th December, the Love Music Trust Christmas Ensemble Concert took place at St Mary’s Church, Sandbach. It was a wonderful evening, full of fantastic performances and festive cheer.

The show kicked off with the Saxophone Orchestra who played a selection of pieces and also added some festive fun to proceedings with an illuminated Saxophone display, the likes of which have never been seen before!

The Guitar Orchestra performed next with a delightful programme of classical guitar pieces, including We Three Kings and the perennial Jingle Bells

The World Percussion Ensemble roused the audience after the interval with their piece called平和 which was played on Taiko Drums and Glockenspiels.

This was followed by the Junior Big Band who performed Fiesta Latina and Oye Como Va. The Senior Big Band finished the evening with a varied programme including Prokofiev's Christmassy Troika from Lieutenant Kije.

Well Done to all the groups; you sounded brilliant in the great acoustic of St Mary’s Church!

The Snowman with Live Orchestra

On Monday 17th December over 500 children came to see 'The Snowman' with live orchestra at Victoria Hall, Hanley.

Our two lucky vocalists, Jamiee and Jack each sang a rendition of Once in Royal David's City and Walking in the Air, accompanied by a professional orchestra. It was a beautiful performance and put everyone into a  thoroughly festive mood.

Wallace and Gromit's Musical Marvels

Everyone’s favourite dynamic duo are heading on tour in Spring 2019 with their live, interactive show - Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels.

Go behind the scenes as Wallace prepares to perform his musical masterpiece My Concerto in Eee Lad with help from his faithful canine companion Gromit...what could possibly go wrong?! This unique experience features specially filmed animations as well as live orchestral accompaniment and escapades from the Picture House Orchestra and presenter Matthew Sharp. This will be followed by a screening of the award winning Wallace & Gromit film The Wrong Trousers, with the soundtrack performed by the orchestra live on stage; it’s set to be a grand day out for all the family!

Love Music Trust will be hosting a schools performance on Monday 20th May 2019 at 1:30pm with student tickets available at the subsidised cost of only £7 each. The performance will take place at Victoria Hall, Hanley and will last for one hour.

This is a wonderful opportunity for your pupils to experience the thrill of live music underpinning an iconic film and the power of music close-up. The performance provides the perfect opportunity to fulfil one of the main aims of the music National Curriculum: "to appreciate and understand a wide range of high-quality live music from great composers and musicians".

Christmas Choral Concert

On the 13th December all of the Love Music Trust choirs came together at Malbank School to get everyone into the festive spirit.

The first half of the evening's entertainment featured a variety of songs from Havana to Just One Person and a Les Miserables medley. The second half was full of festive cheer with Nantwich Young Voices singing the beautiful Le Sommeil de L’enfant Jesus. Sandbach Young Voices' rendition of Away in a Manger was beautiful and Nantwich Youth Choir's Jingle Bells  - complete with sleigh bells - really got the audience in the mood! Nantwich Voices sang Somewhere Only We Know, which achieved Yuletide notoriety through its use in the ever-popular John Lewis advert a few years ago whilst Cheshire East Youth Choir gave us Ding Dong Merrily On High with more tinsel on display than is probably healthy! The evening finished with a congregational rendition of Hark the Herald Angels Sing.

The evening was a great showcase of the exceptional vocal talent and musicianship we have within our ensembles. Congratulations to all who performed!

The National Youth Jazz Orchestra (NYJO)

On Sunday 25th November the fantastic National Youth Jazz Orchestra headed up the motorway from their London base to work with the collective forces of Sandbach School Big Band, Poynton High School Jazz Ensemble and the Knutsford Academy Big Band.

Supported by the Love Music Trust, the three school ensembles each worked independently with members of NYJO across a two hour session, focusing on improvisation, ensemble technique, phrasing and stylistic awareness ahead of a showcase concert starting at 4pm in the Sandbach School Theatre.

Following performances by each of the school groups, NYJO took to the stage for the second half of the concert and wowed the audience away with their fantastic playing and inspirational performance. The programme was diverse and included original pieces composed by band members, the overall standard of the ensemble was a joy to behold. It was the perfect end to a wonderful day of music making.

Local bands hit the Right Notes!

Hub partners Co-operative Youth & Junior Bands recently took part in the National Concert Band Festival at Oldham.

The Youth Band were awarded a Platinum award , that takes them into the National Finals, this year to be held at The Royal Northern College of Music in April. This is the third time that The Youth Band have taken part in the Festival, previously having gained Gold awards.

It was, however, the first time that the Junior Band have taken part in the event and, on the day, they received a Gold award. In the last few days they have found out that they have been invited to take part in the Finals in April as well, as one of the outstanding Gold Award winners!

These awards bring to an end an exciting year for the bands as they have moved to Sandbach from Crewe and have set up a very popular Adult Community Band that already has 27 members. There are now there are 5 Bands within the organisation - a Starter Group, a Beginner Band, a Junior Band, a Youth Band & an Adult Band - so every level of ability is catered for within one highly successful, well run organisation!
