Battle of the Bands
On Monday 18th March, The Love Music Trust run the second Cheshire East Schools Battle of the Bands Competition in the spectacular setting of Crewe Lyceum. With entries submitted from schools across the borough, four groups were invited to perform on the night, all giving knock out performances!
The Scruffs - Sandbach School
Between Thorns - All Hallows’ Catholic College
Primate - Alsager High School
Minimal Order - All Hallows’ Catholic College
For their 20-minute set, each group performed at least one over song and set out to impress the two judges. On the night the difficult task of separating the bands fell to Bryan Hargreaves, (Head of Drums at BIMM (Manchester) and tutor on the RNCM Popular Music Course) and Jasper Wilkinson (Bass guitar tutor on the RNCM Popular Music Course, Producer and Composer for TV). -
Cheshire East Young Musician of the Year
On Sunday 3rd March, the Cheshire East Musician of the Year competition was held at Sandbach School. We received a fantastic number of entries this year, and the day was a great success.
Performers were divided into five age groups (based on school key stages), with each age group split into instrumental and vocal classes. Entrants were free to choose the piece they wished to perform, which resulted in a great variety of music during the day – from Beethoven to Broadway!
Many thanks to our expert judges: Lyn Bastock, Mark Wilkinson, Nigel Stoiner and John Barber.
Thank you and well done to all who took part. Particular congratulations to the category winners, all of whom received a cash prize. -

The day offered a mixture of open rehearsals and workshops, with a programme spanning a wide range of genres and styles. The day began with a hands on workshop from the Birmingham Conservatoire’s Percussion Department. This was followed by talk from Chris Bradley Principal Percussionist Opera North, who spoke about Percussion in the Opera House. It was a interested session and the students all learnt a lot. After a break for lunch, there was a Hands on Egyptian Tablet Workshop led by Guy Schalom all students enjoyed playing Darabous and Djembes and learning the different Egyptian rhythms.
The day ended with a concert attended by friends and family, in which participants could perform the pieces they had learnt during the day.
