    Summer Celebration Weekend

Across the 22nd, 23rd and 24th June, the LMT held the annual ‘Summer Celebration Weekend’ with six concerts, one Teddy Bear's Picnic, and 29 choirs & ensembles performing in the idyllic setting of Clonter Opera.

This was the sixth consecutive year that the Love Music Trust has brought together partner ensembles and choirs from across the borough to share the stage with our own choirs and ensembles, with the three days highlighting the excellent provision and opportunities that are provided and enjoyed by so many in Cheshire East.

On Wednesday 4th July, the massed forces involved in the Love Music Trust 'Brass Revolution' performance headed to Birmingham for the National Takeover Day of the 2018 Music For Youth Festival. The Love Music Trust commissioned British composer award winner Andy Scott to write 'Brass Revolution' specially for the Birmingham performance, a piece that celebrated the musical pathways for young brass players in Cheshire East. • Saxophone Day

    Saxophone Day

The LMT Saxophone Day brought together another batch of brilliant saxophonist, led by Andy Scott and Jamie Sharp; we think this was the biggest event yet! Jamie kicked the day off with a rehearsal of a massed Sax version of 'Jinga' by Matt Styles, making use of a meaty, three-baritone-heavy section and the fast fingers of our Sopranos. Matt Styles is an Australian based Saxophonist, composer and educator at the Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts. He featured at the RNCM's Sax Day back in 2013 and brought this piece along with him. Andy also introduced a beautiful arrangement by a former LMT Saxophone Orchestra member, Simeon Evans - great to see him still creating such fantastic music! Throughout the rest of the day, the saxophonists took part in improvisation workshops, quartet, octet and quintet sessions.

  • Come and Play with the Hallé

Come and Play with the Hallé

On Tuesday 19th June, over 1,400 young musicians from 43 Cheshire East schools made their way to Manchester's Bridgewater Hall to participate in the 2018 Come and Play with the Hallé series. In keeping with this year's dance-related theme, Strictly Hallé, the orchestra made a 'showbiz' entrance to the hall, walking amongst the young players in the Stalls on their way to the stage. For many pupils, this was the first opportunity they had to hear an orchestra live and 'in person' and the Hallé, under conductor Jonathan Heyward, certainly didn't disappoint! Music from Dvorak (Slavonic Dances), Copland (Hoedown from Rodeo) and Marquez (Danza No. 2) was included in the programme alongside two pieces which the children played alongside the orchestra (Perez Prado's Mambo Number 5 and Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers from The Nutcracker).
