Leaving a Legacy

Legacies can support specific areas of Love Music Trust’s work - such as providing bursaries and fee remissions; maintaining instruments or improving our facilities; supporting specific ensembles or events - or can contribute more generally towards our ongoing commitment to changing the lives of children and young people, through music. Your legacy gift can make a unique and personal memorial to your enjoyment of music.

To ensure your wishes are honoured, a legacy should be prepared in consultation with your legal advisor, however we are happy to discuss any queries you may have about the Trust.

Legacies can be made by way of a gift of cash, shares or property, perhaps you have a musical instrument which you would like to bequest to the trust, your solicitor can advise you on writing your Will. As the Love Music Trust is a registered charity (no.1148615) no inheritance tax (IHT) is payable on the amount of your legacy. In certain situations this may be an effective way of reducing the tax liability of your estate whilst benefiting a favourite charity.

Did you know? - If you leave 10% or more of the value of your taxable estate to charity, not only is the gift itself exempt from IHT but the remaining estate is subject to IHT at 36% rather than 40%.

We understand that some people prefer to keep the personal decision of leaving a legacy private, but we would be delighted to hear from you if you choose to let us know so that we can thank you during your lifetime. Letting us know about your gift will be treated in the strictest confidence and does not place you under any obligation.
