Cheshire East Schools' Music Competition
This year's Cheshire East Schools' Music Competition saw over 500 students participate in the heats at Wilmslow High School and St Thomas More Catholic School, Crewe.
We heard an array of choirs and ensembles over both evenings; it was a wonderful event!

Vocal Residential 3rd-5th May 2019
Come along and join us for the first vocal residential at Stanley Head, Stoke on Trent.
A full weekend of vocal fun with expert tutors, suitable for all students in KS2 - KS4
A fantastic subsidised weekend, only £75.00 including travel, food, accommodation and an outdoor activity, specialist choral tuition, exciting workshops and a celebratory performance at Sandbach School on Sunday.
Collection will be from Sandbach School at 3:30pm on the Friday night.
The weekend will include fun warm up activities, exciting repertoire, beatboxing workshop, outdoor activity and a campfire to sing silly songs and toast marshmallows
On the Sunday, the students will perform in a concert to parents at 3pm at Sandbach School.

Macclesfield Music Festival
Following a one-year hiatus in 2018, the Love Music Trust were delighted to step in to co-ordinate the festival for 2019, and look forward to it being a permanent fixture in 2020 and beyond. More than 400 pupils from schools across the Macclesfield area joined us on Wednesday 13th and Thursday 14th February at The Macclesfield Academy for the 2019 Macclesfield Music Festival.
This year, young musicians from Adlington Primary School, Gawsworth Primary School, Hollinhey Primary School, Ivy Bank Primary School, Marlborough Primary School, Parkroyal Community School, Puss Bank School, Upton Priory School and Wincle CE Primary School joined instrumentalists and vocalists from The Macclesfield Academy and the young players of Macclesfield Youth Training Band to put on two consecutive evenings of music to packed-out halls. Individual items from participating schools were combined with the performance of two exciting medleys - one featuring music from the movies and the other well known pop tunes - which brought the house down!
A special thanks must go to the staff at The Macclesfield Academy, led by head of music Dave Rodgers, for their hospitality and for their integral role in the success of this event.

Percussion Day
On Sunday 12th January, the Love Music Trust Percussion Day was held at Sandbach School. The day offered a mixture of open rehearsals and workshops, with a programme spanning a wide range of genres and styles.
The day began with a hands on workshop from the Birmingham Conservatoire’s Percussion Department. This was followed by talk from Chris Bradley Principal Percussionist Opera North, who spoke about Percussion in the Opera House. It was an interesting session and the students all learnt a lot.
After a break for lunch, there was a Egyptian Tabla Workshop led by Guy Schalom. All students enjoyed playing Darabous and Djembes and learning different Egyptian rhythms.
The day ended with a concert attended by friends and family, in which participants could perform the pieces they had learnt during the day.
It was a fantastic day, and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. A big thank you to all who attended, with particular thanks to Acoustic Percussion (sponsor of the LMT Percussion Ensemble).

On Wednesday 6th March the annual Gifted and Talented Vocal Days will take place at Clonter Opera.
The day consists of learning about opera, through workshops, master classes and demonstration. Impromptu Opera will once again be running the proceedings and engaging your pupils with their talents and humour.
There is an evening Schools' Choral Celebration Concert to celebrate the vocal talent of Cheshire East the evening concert runs from 7 - 9pm, and will feature the following schools and choirs

Wallace and Gromit's Musical Marvels
Everyone’s favourite dynamic duo are heading on tour in Spring 2019 with their live, interactive show - Wallace & Gromit’s Musical Marvels.
Go behind the scenes as Wallace prepares to perform his musical masterpiece My Concerto in Eee Lad with help from his faithful canine companion Gromit...what could possibly go wrong?! This unique experience features specially filmed animations as well as live orchestral accompaniment and escapades from the Picture House Orchestra and presenter Matthew Sharp. This will be followed by a screening of the award winning Wallace & Gromit film The Wrong Trousers, with the soundtrack performed by the orchestra live on stage; it’s set to be a grand day out for all the family!
Love Music Trust will be hosting a schools performance on Monday 20th May 2019 at 1:30pm with student tickets available at the subsidised cost of only £7 each. The performance will take place at Victoria Hall, Hanley and will last for one hour.
This is a wonderful opportunity for your pupils to experience the thrill of live music underpinning an iconic film and the power of music close-up. The performance provides the perfect opportunity to fulfil one of the main aims of the music National Curriculum: "to appreciate and understand a wide range of high-quality live music from great composers and musicians".

This year the annual Music Education Conference will be held on Wednesday 1st May at The Canalside Conference Centre, Middlewich starting at 9am and running until 3.00pm. The event is open to all Primary music teachers and coordinators, instrumental tutors and anyone interested in music education to attend.
The conference schedule will feature workshops and demonstrations from specialist music tutors and curriculum professionals, including ABRSM Classical 100, Music across the curriculum - discussing pathways for schools to use music within lessons, a session focusing on creative music making in Key Stage 1 and Early years as well performances from local schools.
Places for delegates are £62.50 each; this includes refreshments and lunch.

Cheshire East Young Musician of the Year Competition
Will take place on Sunday 3rd March at Sandbach School, with a cost per entry of £5.00. The competition is open to all pupils who attend schools in Cheshire East and offers cash bursaries for 1st, 2nd and 3rd placed performers in each of the five Key Stages.

Folk Ensemble Workshop with Joe Broughton and Tom Chapman
Sunday 19th May 2-4 pm.
Sandbach School. Maxwell Davies Centre (Music Block)
Legendary workshop leader and director of The Conservatoire Folk Ensemble (from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire) leads a high energy two our workshop in folk music and ensemble playing. Joe will be joined by master percussionist Tom Chapman and together they will lead you though an exciting devising project that takes in folk music from the UK and further afield as well as giving you some great tips on arranging and performance. This workshop is of course a must for anyone interested in Folk Music but any musician looking for some energy and inspiration to take into their own work should attend.
Joe Broughton is a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer and educator based in Birmingham, UK. As well as his own internationally renowned band The Urban Folk Quartet, Joe has played with everyone from Joss Stone to Fairport Convention. His compositions have been performed at The Royal Albert Hall and the Barbican Centre in London and his workshops in performance and ensemble playing are legendary amongst the teaching community.
Percussionist Tom Chapman is a founding member of The Urban Folk Quartet. He has also provided hybrid drum and percussion setups for Jacqui McShee, Greg Russell and Ciaran Algar, Gilmore & Roberts, The Old Dance School and (after JB himself) is the longest serving member of Joe Broughtons Conservatoire Folk Ensemble. Tom has guested with artists including Joss Stone, The Violent Femmes, Cerys Matthews, Fairport Convention, Roby Lakatos, Chris While and Neil Yates. Outside of contemporary folk, Tom is busy drumming with bands on the UK's swing dance scene.
ALL INSTRUMENTS WELCOME.
If you are a complete beginner you will find it difficult to join in but if you can play twinkle twinkle
little star (or similar!) you will be fine.
